Hoops for our Troops: Capstone Project

After playing basketball with each other for many years, Tanner Lewis and Pete Watson were inspired to put their passion for basketball into a Capstone Project. They decided to organized a 3v3 Basketball Tournament, for middle and high schoolers, called Hoops For Our Troops. This tournament raised funds for Homes for our Troops, a non profit organization that raises funds for injured veterans. Tanner and Pete decided on this organization because they wanted to give back to veterans who have sacrificed so much for this country.

The High School Tournament was held on December 1st, and it was a massive success. Over 30 teams participated in the hard fought, double elimination tournament. After many competitive games, the team of JD Etz, Blake Loker, and Jonas Wilkey were crowned champions.

The Middle School Tournament was held the next weekend on December 8th. Over 10 teams signed up to play, which was great since a middle school tournament had never been done before. Tyler Poss, Ryley Lawhun, and Dylan Pollard were able to come away with the top prize.

After both tournaments, Tanner and Pete were able to raise over $2,000 for Homes for our Troops. They are very excited that their hard work paid off, and they were able to give back to those who give so much to us. They would like to thank all the players, volunteers, advisors, and sponsors for making this event possible.
