Hillside Court Summer Program - Capstone Project

After volunteering in Hillside Court in 2015, Karli Woodcock knew that she wanted to impact this community in some way. The week of August 12-16, she organized a summer program for elementary school children in the Hillside Court Community as her Capstone. This program was aimed to provide the children with a week of structure and supervised fun. On Friday, the 16th, there was a fun closing program for the participants which consisted of a bouncy house, a petting zoo, a cookout for the children and their families, and a school supplies drive. Not only did Karli want to create a memorable experience for the children, but she also wanted to extend the opportunity to serve in this community to her peers in the Midlothian area. Throughout the week, many of the volunteers expressed what an eye opening experience this was. Overall, this program was a great opportunity for the children to get out of the house to have some fun, interact with youth and adult volunteers, and receive nec

essary school supplies that will set them up for success in the upcoming school year.
